Brass Register & Time

Here's an excerpt from today's Daily Bailout article by THE GENERALIST. The article is called "Time and the Brass Register."

In the Great Mayoral Race of 05 in Chattanooga, a rather interesting cultural notion came into discussion. The notion was quite ill defined but centered somewhat on the idea of this: Was money well spent on very significant redevelopment of the Northside, Southside and North Shore of Chattanooga? The high critics of these particular expenditures seemingly based their argument on two points. One being that the folks in the suburbs would like to have had a big chunk of that money. To do exactly what with was not clear. And the other notion was that the new “downtown” looked like Disney World. This Disney World effect somehow resulted in excluding the locals from free-form activities and a culture was destroyed. It seems that memory has it that the town back in the seventies and eighties was filled with impromptu performances of actors and musicians. Also it seems that somehow the closing of David’s and the Brass Register was the result of some intentional meddling of the big money people.
