Carries asks, “And what if I get pregnant?”

Nobody just "gets pregnant" so that concern could be avoided.

I wonder if she checked with the college to see if they offered any level of insurance. If she is a full-time student I do believe she has options. As for not taking help from her parents because she want to be independent - while admirable in lots of ways - is cutting off her nose to spite her face. Take the help! It's not like you are not doing all you can to be independent. You work. You go to college. That's all great! But for now you may have to swallow some pride and accept help. Be glad that you have that option!

I think you're right, Gregg. However, reason for her being dropped from family insurance was due to her not going to college right out of high school. And the reason for that was her very tragic personal experience that changed her life in other ways. I can't talk about that experience but will emphasize that it would have been unbearable for most people. Your other suggestions are great.
