Yes, I Would Like to Run for District 8

Although I am not a "declared" candidate yet, I am tossing my name out there to be considered for the Democratic Party's pick to run for District 8. The story by Kathleen Baydala in the Times Free Press this morning does a good job outlining what is happening, with quotes from Commissioner Adams and Democratic Party Chair Stuart James. The story also includes key information about the meeting Thursday night, June 23. Email me here if you would like to join us Thursday.

The story needs quite a bit of clarifying. What do you mean that you are considering it? I thought this was all set and written in stone or maybe it is wishful thinking that I thought it.

Stuart's comments were also um... well, let's hope he was taken out of context. I think if we know you are running then we can all work on getting a clear message to folks.

That said, please say you are running. Oh BTW, I blogged about it this mornin at Hamdems as if it were already a done deal.

Stuart and Democratic leaders cannot officially endorse anyone until after the Primary. Alice told me this today and so now I know why his statement was neutral.

Of course I am not neutral, I will be a big yell leader and helper for your campaign John.

What's interesting to me is that your county-wide party organization seems to have targeted District 8 at the highest level. That's what I meant by "gauntlet flung" over at my blog. I was speaking more of HamDems than of John Bailes. I certainly don't want to take anything away from the support that you'll have, John (including mine and the wife's), but I am curious as to how much of the party's emphasis here is rooted in a reaction to Commissioner Adams' "switch" (er, making-official-what's-evident-already).

Joe, you're absolutely right about the county-wide support and about throwing a gauntlet out there. Perhaps I am extending the gauntlet a bit. We'll see the reaction tomorrow night and afterward. Hope to see you there. John
